The short version

Townsquare Interactive, the digital marketing division of Townsquare Media, sells a bundled subscription: a website on their platform plus SEO work, social media posting, and a business management tool, quoted per business by a sales rep rather than from a public price list. Gold Strategics sells a managed website plus a small set of tools around it, at published prices, month to month, with the site and domain in your name. If you want one company handling your website, your social posts, and your invoicing under one bill, Townsquare does that and we do not. If you want a website that belongs to you outright, a bill you can predict, and the freedom to leave without losing the site, that is the gap we exist to fill.

Where Townsquare Interactive is strong

Fairness first. Townsquare Interactive is backed by a publicly traded media company with local radio stations and audiences across small and mid-sized markets, and it has the staff to assign each account a team that builds the site, writes the posts, and answers the phone. The bundle covers a lot of ground in one relationship, and public reviews that praise the company usually praise exactly that: a responsive account manager handling things the owner did not want to touch. None of the criticism below is about whether Townsquare is a legitimate company. It is.

Why people search for an alternative

Read through Townsquare Interactive's complaint records on the Better Business Bureau and reviews on Trustpilot and Yelp and the same few themes come up again and again. We are deliberately not quoting a star rating here, because scores shift and cherry-picking one is not honest. The patterns are what matter.

The contract. Townsquare agreements are commonly reported as running twelve months. Complaints filed with the BBB describe customers being billed after asking to cancel, or discovering the commitment was longer than they understood from the sales call. Whatever the individual merits of each complaint, a multi-month commitment with friction on the way out is the structure, and you should go in knowing that.

The pricing. Townsquare does not publish a full price list. Quotes are set per business, and third-party reviews commonly describe monthly costs in the hundreds of dollars, rising as SEO, social, and platform tools are layered on, and sometimes landing well above the figure the sales call led with. Unpublished pricing is not a scandal, most of the industry works that way, but it means you cannot comparison shop without getting on a sales call, and two similar businesses can pay different amounts for the same bundle.

The website. The most consequential theme in public complaints is ownership. Townsquare builds and hosts sites on its own platform, and a recurring pattern in BBB complaints is customers reporting that when they left, they could take the content but not the website itself. Losing the site means losing the design and the search history built up under it, which makes the cost of leaving much higher than the last invoice. Your own contract governs your situation, so read it, and ask the ownership question in writing before signing with anyone, us included.

The rows about scale and social are not spin, they favor Townsquare for some buyers. An owner who wants social posts written and published every week without thinking about it gets more from a large vendor than from us. The rows about pricing, contract, and ownership favor the smaller model, and they are the three things former customers complain about most.

What our alternative looks like in dollars

Gold Strategics pricing, public since day one
$80/mo Gold · $215/mo Diamond

Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee: a custom built site, hosting, security, backups, intake forms, a visitor dashboard, and an instant answers widget. Diamond is $215 a month with no build fee and includes every tool package plus monitoring, priority changes, and monthly numbers by email.

The four tool packages can be added to Gold one at a time: getting found in search and AI assistants at $35 a month, lead capture with call and text tracking at $25, automatic follow-up at $25, and branded estimates and invoices at $25. At four packages Diamond costs less than the pieces, and we say so on the pricing page rather than let anyone overpay. Every package also works on a website we did not build, which matters here: if you are mid-contract with Townsquare, you can add our tools to your existing site now and decide about the website later.

Who is better served by Townsquare Interactive

You should stay, or choose Townsquare over us, if the bundle itself is what you are buying: one vendor writing your social posts, chasing your reviews, running your invoicing platform, and managing the website, with a team on the other end of the phone. We do not offer social media management, and a provider that pretends that does not matter to some businesses would be selling you short. Townsquare also fits owners in the small markets where its parent company has radio audiences to pair with digital work. If that is you, get the contract length and the site ownership terms in writing, and you can be a happy customer there.

You should look at us, or any smaller managed provider, if the website itself is the point: you want it built well, kept fast and secure, owned by you, and priced in public, with tools that answer the phone traffic your reputation already generates. That describes most one-location trades and local service businesses we talk to.

Leaving Townsquare without losing your footing

If you decide to move, the order of operations matters. First confirm in writing who controls your domain, because the domain is the one asset you cannot rebuild. If it is registered to you, everything else is recoverable. Second, check your contract end date and cancellation notice terms, and give notice in writing. Third, request an export of your content, since content is what complaint records suggest departing customers do receive. Fourth, have the new site built before the old one goes dark; we build on a staging address and switch the domain over in one step, so there is no gap where searchers find nothing. We do not charge extra for any of that, it is just the $250 build fee and the first month.

Questions people ask when comparing

Is Townsquare Interactive a scam?

No, and this page does not claim it is. Townsquare Interactive is the digital marketing arm of Townsquare Media, a publicly traded company, and it builds and manages websites and campaigns for tens of thousands of small businesses. The recurring criticisms in public reviews are about the structure of the deal, meaning contract length, cancellation friction, and what happens to the website when you leave, not about whether the company is legitimate.

Do I keep my website if I cancel with Townsquare Interactive?

Check your specific agreement, because terms vary. A consistent theme in complaints filed with the BBB is customers reporting they expected to keep the website after the contract ended and instead received only the content, not the site itself, because the site runs on Townsquare's platform. Whoever you sign with, ask the ownership question in writing before you sign. With Gold Strategics the answer is yes: your domain is registered in your name and you get the files if you leave.

How much does Townsquare Interactive cost compared to Gold Strategics?

Townsquare does not publish a full price list, so the honest answer is that it depends on your quote. Third-party reviews commonly describe packages in the hundreds of dollars a month, with the all-in figure rising as SEO, social, and platform tools are added. Our pricing is public: Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee, Diamond is $215 a month with no build fee, and the four tool packages are $35, $25, $25 and $25 a month on Gold.

Can you take over a site Townsquare Interactive built for me?

If you own the domain, yes. We rebuild rather than migrate, because a site hosted on a proprietary platform usually cannot be exported cleanly. You point the domain at the new site when it is ready, so there is no gap where you have nothing. Our four tool packages also work on a site we did not build, so you can start with those before committing to a rebuild.

Does Gold Strategics do everything Townsquare Interactive does?

No. Townsquare bundles a website with SEO work, social media posting, and a business management platform with things like invoicing and review requests, handled by assigned account teams. We build and run the website, the structured data that gets you found in search and AI assistants, lead capture, follow-up, and branded paperwork, and the person you email is the person doing the work. If you want one large vendor posting to your social accounts every week, that is a real difference in their favor.

Weighing more than one bundled provider? We wrote the same straight comparison as a Hibu alternative. To put any monthly quote in context, what a website costs in 2026 lays out the whole market. And since much of Townsquare's pitch is visibility, how businesses get found in AI search shows what that work looks like when it is done in the open.
