Looking for a Thryv alternative? Here is an honest side by side.

Thryv sells business software and marketing services to a large base of small businesses, and for some of them it is the right choice. This page lays out how their model works, why some customers go looking for something else, and where a smaller managed plan like ours fits, with sources named for every claim.

The short version

Thryv is the company that grew out of the old yellow pages publishers. Its own site lists software for scheduling, CRM, estimates, invoicing and payments, alongside marketing services such as listings, social media management, SEO, paid lead programs and The Real Yellow Pages. Gold Strategics gets a business found, answered and followed up, with a managed website and a small set of tools around it, at published prices, month to month, with the site and domain in your name. If you want your invoicing, your payments and your marketing inside one app from one vendor, Thryv does that and we do not. If you want a website that belongs to you outright, a bill you can predict, and the freedom to leave without losing the site, that is the gap we exist to fill.

Where Thryv is strong

Fairness first. Thryv Holdings is a publicly traded company whose history, per Wikipedia, runs through Dex Media, SuperMedia and YP before the 2019 rename to Thryv. It has the scale to run a full software product and a marketing services arm at the same time, and its site says it is trusted by more than 100,000 small businesses. Unlike most vendors in this space, Thryv publishes prices for its software plans on its pricing page. Positive reviews on Trustpilot tend to praise onboarding staff by name and the convenience of running social posts and customer records from one place. None of the criticism below is about whether Thryv is a legitimate company. It is.

Why people search for an alternative

Read through Thryv's complaint records on the Better Business Bureau and reviews on Trustpilot and the same few themes come up again and again. We are deliberately not quoting a star rating here, because scores shift and cherry-picking one is not honest. The patterns are what matter.

The renewal. The Thryv Terms and Conditions posted on its site set an initial subscription period of six months that then renews automatically month to month until cancelled, with a termination taking effect at the end of the current period. Adding the Thryv Leads program extends the software term to match the leads term. None of that is hidden, but complaints filed with the BBB and reviews on Trustpilot repeatedly describe customers billed after they asked to cancel, renewals they did not expect, and disputed balances sent to collections. Whatever the merits of each complaint, go in knowing the term and the notice rules.

The pricing. The software has a published price. The marketing services, including print directory ads, SEO and paid lead programs, are quoted per business, and Trustpilot reviewers describe totals that grew well past what they expected once those were added. Quoted pricing is normal in this industry, but it means the number on the pricing page is not always the number on the invoice.

The website. The most consequential question is ownership. Thryv's posted terms say that content and design Thryv creates for your website are its property, and that on termination it releases your own content and your URL if it was your domain originally. So when you leave, you keep your words and your domain, not the site. Losing the site means losing the design and paying for a rebuild, which makes the cost of leaving higher than the last invoice. Your own contract governs your situation, so read it, and ask the ownership question in writing before signing with anyone, us included.

The rows about invoicing, social and scale are not spin, they favor Thryv for some buyers. An owner who wants to send invoices, take payments and post to social media from one login gets more from Thryv than from us. The rows about contract and ownership favor the smaller model, and they are what former customers complain about most.

What our alternative looks like in dollars

Gold Strategics pricing, public since day one
$80/mo Gold · $349/mo Business Operating System

Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee: a custom built site, hosting, security, backups, intake forms, the visitor analytics dashboard, and the AI chatbot. The Business Operating System is $349 a month plus a one-time $500 build fee and includes a fully custom, multi-page website that is SEO optimized and AI optimized, with intake forms, career forms and an AI chatbot, a CRM with the automated follow-up and reminder tool inside it, a visitor analytics dashboard, online booking and scheduling with deposits, two-way texting, a review builder, a knowledge management system, an online presence audit, Google Business Profile optimization and priority website changes.

None of it is billed one tool at a time. The Operating System includes getting found in search and AI assistants, automatic follow-up and the rest of the list above at one price, and if you are mid-term with Thryv, we can plan the switch around the date your subscription period ends.

Who is better served by Thryv

You should stay, or choose Thryv over us, if the software is what you are buying: estimates, invoices and card payments in the same app as your customer list, with social posting and listings managed alongside. We do not do invoicing or payments, we do not post to social media, and we do not run paid lead programs, call tracking or print directory ads. Thryv also fits owners who still get calls from The Real Yellow Pages and want to keep that ad running. If that is you, note the subscription end date and the notice window, get the website ownership terms in writing, and you can be a happy customer there.

You should look at us, or any smaller managed provider, if the website itself is the point: you want it built well, kept fast and secure, owned by you, and priced in public, with tools that answer the phone traffic your reputation already generates. That describes most one-location trades and local service businesses we talk to.

Leaving Thryv without losing your footing

If you decide to move, the order of operations matters. First confirm in writing who controls your domain, because the domain is the one asset you cannot rebuild. Thryv's terms release the URL if it was your domain originally, so find out whether it was. Second, find your subscription period end date and send termination notice in writing well ahead of it; the posted terms ask for more than 48 hours before the period ends, and earlier is safer. Third, export your customer list and any content you wrote, since your own content is what the terms say you get back. Fourth, have the new site built before the old one goes dark; we build on a staging address and switch the domain over in one step, so there is no gap where searchers find nothing. We do not charge extra for any of that, it is just the $250 build fee and the first month.

Questions people ask when comparing

Is Thryv a legitimate company?

Yes. Thryv Holdings is a publicly traded company that grew out of the Dex Media and YP yellow pages businesses, and it sells business software and marketing services to a large base of small businesses. The recurring criticisms in public reviews are about the structure of the deal, meaning automatic renewal, billing after a cancellation request, and what happens to the website when you leave, not about whether the company is real.

Do I keep my website if I cancel Thryv?

Read your own agreement, because terms vary by product. The Thryv Terms and Conditions posted on thryv.com say that content and design Thryv creates for your website remain Thryv's property, and that on termination Thryv releases your own content and your URL if it was your domain originally. In practice that means you keep your words and your domain, not the site itself. With Gold Strategics the answer is yes: your domain is registered in your name and you get the files if you leave.

How much does Thryv cost compared to Gold Strategics?

Thryv publishes prices for its software plans on its pricing page, which is more than most of this industry does. Its marketing services, such as Thryv Leads, SEO and print directory ads, are quoted separately. Our pricing is public: Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee, The Business Operating System is $349 a month plus a one-time $500 build fee, and the tools and services are included in the Operating System, never billed one at a time.

Can you take over a site Thryv built for me?

If you own the domain, yes. We rebuild rather than migrate, because a site built on a vendor platform with vendor-owned design usually cannot be exported cleanly. You point the domain at the new site when it is ready, so there is no gap where you have nothing.

Does Gold Strategics do everything Thryv does?

No. Thryv's software includes estimates, invoicing and payments, and its services include social media management, paid lead programs with call tracking, and Yellow Pages print ads. We do not offer invoicing, social posting, paid ads management or call tracking. We build and run the website, the structured data that gets you found in search and AI assistants, the CRM, follow-up, online booking and reviews, and the person you email is the person doing the work. If you want your invoicing and your marketing in one app, that is a real difference in Thryv's favor.
