Looking for a LOCALiQ alternative? Here is an honest side by side.

LOCALiQ, the marketing arm of USA TODAY Co., runs advertising and websites for a very large number of businesses, and for some of them it is the right choice. This page lays out how their model works, why some customers go looking for something else, and where a smaller managed plan like ours fits, with sources named for every claim.

The short version

LOCALiQ is an advertising agency first. Its own site leads with search, social, display and video ads and placements on the USA TODAY Network, then adds websites and landing pages, SEO, listings, social media marketing and a lead management platform, all priced through a demo rather than a public list. Gold Strategics gets a business found, answered and followed up, with a managed website and a small set of tools around it, at published prices, month to month, with the site and domain in your name. If you want a team spending a paid ad budget for you, LOCALiQ does that and we do not. If you want a website that belongs to you outright, a bill you can predict, and the freedom to leave without losing the site, that is the gap we exist to fill.

Where LOCALiQ is strong

Fairness first. LOCALiQ is one of three reporting segments of USA TODAY Co., per the company's FY2025 annual report, which describes it as serving small and medium-sized businesses with digital marketing products. That parent gives it something few agencies have: its own national and local news audience to sell ads against, alongside the big ad platforms. It also builds its own lead management software, so the ads and the follow-up can live in one dashboard. Positive reviews on Trustpilot mostly praise individual account managers by name for responsive, clear reporting. None of the criticism below is about whether LOCALiQ is a legitimate company. It is.

Why people search for an alternative

LOCALiQ's US profiles on the Better Business Bureau showed few or no complaints when we checked in October 2026, which is to its credit. The patterns below come from reviews on Trustpilot, where the same few themes repeat. We are deliberately not quoting a star rating here, because scores shift and cherry-picking one is not honest. The patterns are what matter.

Results against spend. The most common complaint is a gap between what was spent and what came back: reviewers describe paying for months of ads and receiving few leads they could use, and being offered more services as the fix. Paid advertising carries that risk with any agency, since you pay for clicks whether or not they turn into customers, but it is the reason most former customers give for leaving.

Billing and cancellation. Reviewers also describe unexpected balances, slow answers to cancellation requests, and renewals they found hard to stop. LOCALiQ does not publish its prices or US contract terms on a page you can read before a sales conversation, so the order form is the document that matters. Its published website terms for Australia, for example, set a minimum of 12 billing cycles that then renew unless cancelled at least 30 days ahead. US terms may differ, so ask for yours in writing.

The website. Those same Australian terms say the text, images and other material LOCALiQ supplies for a website remain owned by LOCALiQ or its licensors and are licensed to you only for that site, while you own the content you provide. If US terms work the same way, leaving means keeping your words and your domain but rebuilding the site. Your own contract governs your situation, so read it, and ask the ownership question in writing before signing with anyone, us included.

The rows about ads, social and scale are not spin, they favor LOCALiQ for some buyers. An owner with a real advertising budget gets more from a large agency with its own media network than from us. The rows about pricing, contract and ownership favor the smaller model.

What our alternative looks like in dollars

Gold Strategics pricing, public since day one
$80/mo Gold · $349/mo Business Operating System

Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee: a custom built site, hosting, security, backups, intake forms, the visitor analytics dashboard, and the AI chatbot. The Business Operating System is $349 a month plus a one-time $500 build fee and includes a fully custom, multi-page website that is SEO optimized and AI optimized, with intake forms, career forms and an AI chatbot, a CRM with the automated follow-up and reminder tool inside it, a visitor analytics dashboard, online booking and scheduling with deposits, two-way texting, a review builder, a knowledge management system, an online presence audit, Google Business Profile optimization and priority website changes.

None of it is billed one tool at a time. The Operating System includes getting found in search and AI assistants, automatic follow-up and the rest of the list above at one price, and if you are mid-contract with LOCALiQ, we can plan the switch around the date your contract ends.

Who is better served by LOCALiQ

You should stay, or choose LOCALiQ over us, if advertising is what you are buying: a team running Google, social, display or video campaigns on a monthly budget, with reach into USA TODAY Network sites and local papers, social media marketing and email campaigns handled for you. We do not manage paid ads, we do not post to social media, and we do not run call tracking, and a provider that pretends that does not matter would be selling you short. If that is you, get the minimum term, the renewal notice window and the website ownership terms in writing, and you can be a happy customer there.

You should look at us, or any smaller managed provider, if the website itself is the point: you want it built well, kept fast and secure, owned by you, and priced in public, with tools that answer the phone traffic your reputation already generates. That describes most one-location trades and local service businesses we talk to.

Leaving LOCALiQ without losing your footing

If you decide to move, the order of operations matters. First confirm in writing who controls your domain, because the domain is the one asset you cannot rebuild. If it is registered to you, everything else is recoverable. Second, find your minimum term end date and renewal notice window on your order form, and give notice in writing before that window closes. Third, ask for admin access to any Google Business Profile, analytics and ad accounts tied to your business, and export the content you wrote. Fourth, have the new site built before the old one goes dark; we build on a staging address and switch the domain over in one step, so there is no gap where searchers find nothing. We do not charge extra for any of that, it is just the $250 build fee and the first month.

Questions people ask when comparing

Is LOCALiQ a legitimate company?

Yes. LOCALiQ is the digital marketing segment of USA TODAY Co., the publicly traded media company that was called Gannett until November 2025. It runs ads, websites, SEO and lead management for a very large base of businesses. The recurring criticisms in public reviews are about results relative to spend, billing and cancellation friction, not about whether the company is real.

Do I keep my website if I cancel LOCALiQ?

Read your own order form, because terms vary by product and country. LOCALiQ's published website terms for its Australian business say that the material LOCALiQ supplies for a site stays owned by LOCALiQ or its licensors and is licensed to you only for that website, while you own the content you provide. Ask for the US terms that apply to you in writing before you sign. With Gold Strategics the answer is yes: your domain is registered in your name and you get the files if you leave.

How much does LOCALiQ cost compared to Gold Strategics?

LOCALiQ does not publish a price list. Its site invites you to get a demo, and spend depends largely on the ad budget you choose. Our pricing is public: Gold is $80 a month plus a $250 one time build fee, The Business Operating System is $349 a month plus a one-time $500 build fee, and the tools and services are included in the Operating System, never billed one at a time. Neither of our plans includes ad spend, because we do not run ads.

Can you take over a site LOCALiQ built for me?

If you own the domain, yes. We rebuild rather than migrate, because a site built from vendor-licensed material usually cannot be carried over as is. You point the domain at the new site when it is ready, so there is no gap where you have nothing.

Does Gold Strategics do everything LOCALiQ does?

No, and for many LOCALiQ customers the ads are the main thing they buy. LOCALiQ manages search, social, display and video ads, social media marketing, email marketing and placements across the USA TODAY Network. We do not manage paid ads, post to social media or run call tracking. We build and run the website, the structured data that gets you found in search and AI assistants, the CRM, follow-up, online booking and reviews, and the person you email is the person doing the work. If you have an ad budget and want someone to spend it well, that is a real difference in LOCALiQ's favor.
