Character art & illustration · by Mara Vale
Commissions with a transparent process: you approve the sketch, you approve the lines, and you watch your piece come alive stage by stage. Slots and queue are listed live on this page.
All commissions, all real clients. Tap any piece for a closer look.
When the dots are full, the tier is full. Waitlist requests are always welcome through the form.
The same piece, four stages. You approve every one before I move to the next, so there are no surprises at delivery, only the good kind.
Composition and gesture. You approve before I move on.
Clean linework over the approved sketch.
Flats, then rendering, light, and atmosphere.
Polish pass, effects, and your full-res delivery.
I'm Mara, an illustrator who has been drawing other people's characters, pets, and worlds for eight years. My favorite thing in this job is the message where someone sees their commission for the first time. I work in full transparency: you see the sketch before I line, the lines before I color, and nothing moves forward without your yes.
Updated as pieces move. If your alias is here, your art is on the easel.
She drew my D&D character better than I imagined him for three years. My whole party commissioned her within a week.
I cried. It's my cat who passed last spring, and she got his exact grumpy little face. Treasure this artist.
Professional from first message to delivery. Sketch in 4 days, updates at every stage, zero chasing.
Read before commissioning. Sending the form means you're good with all of it.
Full payment up front through invoice for pieces under $150; a 50% deposit starts larger work, with the rest due at the line stage. No work begins before payment.
Each tier includes its listed revision rounds at the sketch and line stages. Revisions after coloring, or beyond the included rounds, are billed at $20 per round.
Commissions are for personal use: profiles, prints for yourself, sharing with credit. Commercial use (book covers, merch, streaming assets) is available for a 50% license fee, agreed before work starts.
Hateful content, plagiarized designs, and anything involving real people without their consent. If I decline your idea, you get a full refund and zero judgment.
Delivery windows are listed per tier and I communicate early if life happens. Cancel before the sketch is approved for a full refund; after that, refunds are prorated by stage.
No AI is used at any stage, and by commissioning me you agree not to feed the work into AI training or generators. You're paying for human hands, and that's what you get.
Send the form at the bottom of this page with your idea and references. I reply within 48 hours with a quote and my next open slot, and your spot is locked once the invoice is paid.
Reference images of the character, pet, or people; the vibe or pose you're imagining; and where you plan to use it. Messy Pinterest boards and blurry pet photos are welcome, that's what the sketch stage is for.
Sketch portraits run 3 to 5 days, half bodies 1 to 2 weeks, and full illustrations 2 to 4 weeks, counted from when your slot starts, not from when you order. The queue on this page shows exactly where things stand.
Yes, with a commercial license, which is a 50% add-on agreed before work begins. Personal use, including printing for yourself and posting with credit, is always included.
No. Stylized combat and dramatic themes are fine; explicit content is not something I take on.
The deliverable is a print-ready full-resolution file. Most clients print through their local shop or an online print service, and I'll happily size the file for whatever you're printing.
